Psalm 136

Our lives are truly a great love story based upon our relationship with Yahweh. Our love has failed at times, but His love endures forever. When we are struggling to love God, we can return to His awesome works in our past and remember that His love endures forever. We cannot run from it though we can reject it. He will still love us and provide blessings for us. This is our God; He brings rain upon the just and the unjust, because He loves us. We have excused hatred in certain instances because of our sinful nature, but God’s love endures the worst of sins and the saddest of tragedies. His love truly endures forever. The psalmist goes all the way back to creation to show us God’s great love. He returns to Egypt and God’s deliverance to remember just how much God loves His people. He remembers the victories God provided and the hope He instilled in His people simply because He loved them. How then can we question God’s great love? It is not just the wonderful blessings that He brings to our lives; we must stop and look back to the cross. Paul tells us that God sacrificed His own Son while we were yet sinners; knowing we might reject the free gift of eternal life. That, my friends, is true love. We did not deserve His forgiveness nor could we ever earn it, but He gave it freely to us through the cross. Does He love you? He does, and His love endures forever.

Help me, Lord, to live in that deep, abiding love that You have for me. Help me to keep my eyes focused on the cross remembering always just how much You love me.
