Solomon reminds us of the difference that a healthy fear of the Lord makes in our lives. God does not want us to be scared of Him, but He does want us to hold such a high regard for Him that we will not give into the temptations that bombard us throughout a day. He says that “the fear of the Lord is a fountain of life.” We cannot live a better life than one dedicated fully to Jesus Christ. He is our life and makes everything flow beautifully in and through us. He tells us that this fear turns “a man from the snares of death.” Our sin always leads to death, so it makes sense that walking with the Lord would lead to life and save us from the “snares of death.” If people lived by God’s standards, would there be an issue with abortion today? If we lived by God’s standards, would we need gun laws or safety glass for teachers in classrooms? If we lived by God’s standards, would divorce even have a rate in our culture? It is easy to see just how important a healthy fear of the Lord is for our lives, our children, and our future. We must teach our children to have that same kind of fear to help protect them from the snares of the evil one. He wants to ruin them and hurt us by their sinful actions; therefore, we must fight for them spiritually and teach them how to fear the Lord. I want the best for my kids, and He is the best. Do you have a healthy fear of the Lord? Can you see the difference that He makes in your life? If not, look closer, because “the fear of the Lord is a fountain of life.”

Help me, Lord, to have a healthy fear of You. Help me to enjoy the benefits of a life lived totally and completely submitted to You.
