As in every great story, an antagonist must appear and disrupt the utopia that the main characters seem to enjoy. In this historical event. Haman is introduced and immediately causes a huge problem for Esther and all the Jews. Haman's pride pushes him to destroy God's people simply because one of them would not bow down to him. He clearly had a god-complex and thought himself to be much more than he really was. He is also a decent liar since he convinces the king to sign the edict and have it read throughout the empire. As expected, the Jews are shocked and horrified by the king's decree. While the people were surprised, God prepared the way for their salvation way before they knew they needed it. Esther was already the queen who found great favor with the king. We all face those moments where we are sure all is lost. As we struggle with the next step, God is already five or six steps ahead. He already has a plan in place that will eventually work for your good and His glory. Our response is to walk by faith. We can worry or live in anxiety, but it will only produce greater stress levels and blood pressure problems. Faith allows us to lay all of those worries and fears at the feet of Jesus and trust that He will take care of it all. I suspect Mordecai knew what God was doing and he was determined to walk by faith. We can do the same!

Help me, Lord, to walk by faith when my worst nightmares seem to be coming true. Help me to lay every worry and fear at Your feet and trust You to handle them in Your perfect time!
