Disaster Relief

Faith Baptist is the home of two regional Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Units. The Southern Baptists through the North American Missions Board and the cooperative program have the third largest disaster relief organization in the United States. Recovery 1 is Maryland/Delaware’s oldest full service recovery unit. Manned by our trained volunteers, Recovery 1 goes into disaster stricken areas, pumps flooded basements, removes trees from roofs, and makes emergency – temporary repairs so people can remain in their homes after a disaster awaiting permanent repairs. Recovery 1 has deployed to Florida, Louisiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, and numerous locations in Maryland serving Christ’s people in times of crisis.

Communications 1 is our self-contained mobile command and communications unit built on a Winnebago chassis. The unit supports our disaster chaplain corps and other disaster relief units by providing a communications link and command post during disaster operations in areas where local communications services are down. Our unit can communicate via Amateur Radio and other specialized radios with local governments, the Red Cross, and other faith based disaster teams such as the Salvation Army.

The Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware has two additional recovery units, two disaster mass feeding units, shower/laundry units, and another chaplain support/communications unit in our state fleet. The state convention hosts disaster volunteer training each fall and spring.
Faith Baptist is also a partner with the Frederick County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Our building is a designated shelter site and many of our members are trained in Red Cross Mass Care and Shelter Operations.
